Women Grand Champions Cup 2013 - Brazil x Japan (full match). The current olympic champion and World number one Brazil won the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup by defeating Japan 3-0 at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. Brazilian team finished the competition undefeated with a perfect 5-0 record for 15 points, United States took the silver with a 4-1 record and 10 points while Japan took the bronze medal, matching their performance in 2001. Brazil became the first team to win the title twice. They also won in 2005. It was a perfect year for Brazil, 5 tournaments, 5 titles: Montreux, Alassio, World Grand Prix, South American Championship and now the World Grand Champions Cup. All over the season, Brazil disputed 36 matches, loosing just once (against Bulgaria, second week of Grand Prix). Today, Fernanda Garay was the top scorer for Brazil (16 points), while Sheilla Castro had 14. For Japan, the best scorer was Yuki Ishii (12 points). "Of course I’m very happy about this result. This last match was very dangerous for us. The key to this match was the first set. We were four or five points down and then we made a double change, bringing in Claudia and Monique who played very well. It’s difficult to play with Japan every time. It’s always difficult to stop them, to block and defend, but Camilla, our libero, played really well tonight and helped us in many situations. I think we were a bit lucky at critical moments. But also the characteristics of my team are important. We adjust during the match; we adjust our block and defence and the players focus at important moments." - declared José Roberto Guimarães after the match.
