The team of Maritsa (Plovdiv) recorded a historic first victory in the most prestigious European Tournament - the Champions League after having overran the French champion Bessie with 3: 1 (25:15, 19:25, 25:15, 25:16) on the fifth A Group A match played in front of over 2,000 people in the Kolodruma Hall in the city under the hills.


Starters:   Maritza: Jennifer Cross, Nasia Dimitrova, Alexandra Holston, Kathleen Weiss, Tanya Petkova, Miroslava Paskova, Zhana Todorova - Libero;   Bessie: Jesse Soto, Malina Terelli, Janissa Johnson, Kayla Ramos, Pilar Lopez, Daniela Johannes, Louisa Carvalho Roca - Libero.


The hosts dominated the field in three of the four games, closing with a great lead. In the second part, Fabien Simone's volleyball players took the initiative after the middle and managed to keep pace and catch up. Subsequently, the Marichans had no more problems, and they congratulated the success in less than an hour and a half.   The most successful was Alexandra Hallston with 15 points. Twelve points added Nasia Dimitrova (1 ace, 2 blockades) and Miroslava Paskova. For their opponents Malina Terel realized 12 points (1 block)


The girls of Ivan Petkov are fourth in the group with 3 points (1 win, 4 losses). Bézier has the same asset in third place.   In the next round (last) of the group stage, the "yellow and blue" take the German Allianz (Stuttgart), the match being on February 26 (Tuesday) at 20:00.
