Cuban volleyball continues to go down the drain! We’ve received an unconfirmed report that the Cuban Federation has banned Wilfredo Leon for 4 years instead of 2 years. When a Cuban player decides to retire from the team, he becomes inactive for 2 years before the athlete can obtain permission and clearance from the FIVB to play out of Cuba.
It all started when a European club team offered Leon almost $1 Milion to play overseas. Leon asked the Federation’s permission but they did not approve his request which prompted the Federation to expel him. This is such a very sad fate for Wilfredo. Rumor has it that setter Yoandry Diaz has also been expelled.
Cuban national team has suffered another loss. In Cuban national team there are only two players that have been participating in the World Championship 2010 in Italy - Rolando Cepeda and Keibel Gutiérrez. Since then, more and more Cubans players have left.

Sad , but true. Let's think how powerful would be Cuban NT, if players like Leon, Simon, Juantorena, and all the best players from this country could play in Europe and in NT. Also in Europe they can improve their skills.
