Galatasaray Istanbul and Yamamay Busto Arsizo of Italy crossed their ways for the sixth time in about one and a half year. Their rivalry has turned into something that Volleyball fans in Europe have got accustomed to after these sides played each other in the final stage of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup and then again in the prelims of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League. They again played each other in Istanbul last March as Unendo Yamamay beat Galatasaray in the classification match of the Final Four thereby winning bronze. This time, however, Galatasaray had the upper hand and won against the Italians without loosing set (26-24, 25-23, and 25-11). The teams were playing each other for the third round of action in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League and Galatasaray Daikin claimed their second victory while Unendo Yamamay’s win-loss record dropped to 0-3. Unendo Yamamay came back twice in the opening set but the hosts eventually wrapped it up at 26-24. In the second set the local heroines set the pace of the game in the early phases but Unendo Yamamay was able to make it a close match until Galatasaray finished it off at 25-23. The third set was really one-sided with the Turks comfortably cruising to a 25-11 that sealed their final 3-0 victory.
