No. 4-ranked Park University entertained a Homecoming Weekend crowd in the American Midwest Conference opener with a three-set win (25-11, 25-17, 25-10) over visiting Hannibal-LaGrange, Friday evening in the Breckon Sports Center.
Park hit .409 in the first set and used a stretch of nine-straight points to grab a 14-3 lead. Noura Meawad (FR/Cairo, Egypt) and Nada Meawad (FR/Cairo, Egypt) each had a pair of kills early on.
The visitors eliminted a number of the early mistakes in the opening moments of set two, staying even with the Pirates through the opening stages. However, a kill by Maren Mair (SO/Platte City, Mo.) followed by three from Nada Meawad sparked another nine-unanswered points. Meawad fired six of her match-best 12 kills in the middle frame as the Pirates tallied 17 kills.
Nada Meawad hit .308 in her home debut and added seven digs, while Dudra tallied nine kills, three digs and three service aces.
