The United States volleyball team defeated the Dominican Republic 3:1 (25:19, 26:24, 21:25, 25:19) on Saturday to won the NORCECA championship. The victory in the biennial tournament earns the U.S. women an automatic berth in the FIVB Grand Champions Cup in Japan from November 12-17. It was the team's second straight continental championship and seventh overall. Kelly Murphy led the United States with 18 points and Jordan Larson-Burbach, a native Nebraskan, had 15 points in the final match at the Ralston Arena. Bethania de La Cruz had a match-high 23 points for the Dominican Republic. Kristin Hildebrand (captain USA NT) said: "We practice every day serving tough serves on the court. (During the fourth set serving run) I was just doing the same thing I always do when I go back to the end line. I was surrounded by a great group of girls that were doing a great job with blocking defense and allowed me to keep serving. The Dominican is a great team. They have a lot of talented girls. Great spikers and a libero that digs a lot of balls". Puerto Rico claimed the bronze medal by defeating Canada in all sets earlier in the day.
