Serbia silence record-breaking crowd to retain EuroVolley crown

Ankara, Turkey, September 8, 2019. Serbia retained their EuroVolley crown after edging hosts Turkey 3-2 at the end of a truly exciting final match, filled with drama and turnarounds. As they did so, Serbia secured their third EuroVolley title to go with those they previously won in 2011 and 2017. They emulated Italy (2007 and 2009) and Russia (2013 and 2015) – who celebrated back-to-back European gold medals in recent times as well. Earlier in the afternoon, Italy beat Poland in the bronze medal match to secure their first EuroVolley podium finish since 2009. The top four teams of the competition travel home with € 400,000 – 200,000 – 100,000 and 50,000 in prize money for a record-breaking total purse of € 750,000.
