The set was a too fast considering where the leftside had just passed the ball, the hitter had a pretty low contact point and not much angle. Perhaps he could have been there sooner, but little things like this is what stops a team from siding out when it should be easy.
Hey does anyone know where I can get full game stats for all these matches in english?
You can see these matches here:

Or if that link doesn't work, just go to http://www.laola1.tv/ and look for cev 2011.

Pretty awesome, but it was a low and obvious set, too far in front of the attack line, Priddy should have not swung so hard unless he could get a higher contact on the ball. I prefer Pujol's block against Priddy, that just makes me happy :)
André Nascimento (2nd movie) 13 anos atrás +1
Hey why did he leave the national team anyways? Not a fan of Visotto, i'd even rather see Theo, or Murilo/Giba/Dante playing rightside, if we can't have to Andre.

I think he's underrated by some people. He was a huge part of the Brazilian team that won everything for 6+ years in a row..

so when you say official website, is it actually run by the Cuban volleyball federation?

I notice there is an article on Marshall, I wonder what they said about him. Most volleyball organizations would try to be politically correct and just pretend that players who leave the team don't exist anymore.

Also I guess there's no English option right?
But really, why have Mikaylov and Clay Stanley on the same team?

Kevin Hansen has some big shoes to fill...
lol pretty awesome.
Gitter I saw at least half a smile in there somewhere...
Yeah I know Nagor, but I have a better version of the 2nd match (Aug 26), I got it directly from the camera crew. Its still not amazing quality, but a little better. Also the third match (and imo the best of 3) was at Laval University, and they streamed it on their website but I don't think that match is up anymore, I'll have that one soon too. It was a tiny venue for such an amazing team like Cuba, but that's what volleyball is here in Canada. In Quebec, they could have had the biggest audience if they had enough space, but this place only held 2000. There were 3500 people at the Ottawa game, played in the venue where the Ottawa Senators play, could easily hold 12000+ I think. The first match wasn't good, Canada was playing bad, due to inexperience, and the crowd seemed very bored, I don't think people in Toronto quite understand volleyball. But the Laval match was good because of the atmosphere, the place was totally packed in the crowd was into every play. Simon was enjoying the attention from the crowd too, especially in the warmup, that crowd had never seen such athletic volleyball players before (talking about the Cubans). I haven't seen it again since I was there, but I'm looking forward to getting that match, I hope the quality is good.
I have to grab them from my friend first, as they were sent by mail to his place. Also when I do that I'll have the 3 matches Canada played in the WC.
casavera where did you get his spike touch from? Notice that on the Cuban roster, there were 6 to 7 players in a row listed at 358 cm for their spike touch, including Simon, as well as at least 1 setter, maybe even a libero. And then Hernandez was listed right under that at 258, obviously a typo. But seems to me, Cuban's didn't have, or didn't care to share, the actual spike touches so just threw a whole bunch of 358's on there. Not saying Simon can't reach that high, I would estimate his spike touch to be around 360cm for sure. But you know, it would be cool if FIVB actually made sure teams released proper data on this stuff, because I think its a good thing for fans to know, and compare. They should make it mandatory at events like this to test the spike touch of each athlete on the team. Maybe that would be a waste of time, or get in the way of teams trying to focus only on winning, but again it would be nice for us to have. And I hope that soon Simon will be considered the best middle blocker there is. You are right, he is extremely universal, and I find this awesome for a guy who honestly has a very untraditional form in his approach, jump, serve, and pass, but he's extremely effective and a very strong athlete. I've seen him pepper before a match and he has a very odd passing form, but yet he has very good control in his pass, and i've seen him make exceptional digs in the backrow, and make some good plays off of dives as well. No offense to some of the middle blockers out there, but there are some who would make a fool of themselves if they had to dive for a ball or do some sort of defensive action that you would expect from the libero. As his short jump serves never fails to impress me, i've seen him use it so many times where the receivers don't even try to get the ball before it hits the floor, but they can't just move up either because they have to be ready for a powerful deep serve as well. The first time I saw him on Youtube i wasn't that impressed, I didn't like his awkward form and he seemed like just another middle blocker who was there because he was tall. And then I saw him play 3 times in Canada, and that perspective changed very quickly. But the thing that stood out for me the most was his attitude on the court. Sure he will sometimes do what the Cuban's traditionally do and stare down their opponent after blocking them or getting a huge kill, but I think this is part of the game, as long you do it respectfully. He will always apologize when hitting someone in the face too. He lets his emotions impact his game in a good way. When there is a bad call or the other team does something disrespectful, he gets fired finds a way to score the next 2 or 3 points for his team, starting with a very big kill out of the middle. He's the one who tries to keep his team together and in focus when they lose their rhythm or let their emotions negatively impact their playing. Well it was great to see him play some matches, even if they were just exhibition for WC, here in Canada. I have some clips of these matches, I will try to upload them soon, you can see Simon on several making great plays after a questionable call by the ref/linesman, or Canada trying to stare him down through the net. In the last of 3 matches, Just Duff (Canada) got a kill in the middle and stared down Simon and Leal for about 8-10 seconds, but Simon doesn't take crap like that from a rookie middle blocker, who also happens to be a lot smaller than him. The next few plays were fun to watch.
