Turkey beat Serbia in five-set match (18:25, 25:19, 22:25, 25:20, 17:15) in Group E of the World Grand Prix at the Baskent Volleyball Hall on Saturday. Turkey moved to third place in Group 2 standings, while Serbia dropped to seventh place. Serbia had 74 attack points but committed 43 errors in the match. Serbian spiker Sanja Malagurski scored 20 points, while Neriman Ozsoy led Turkey with 17 points. On the press conference Turkey coach Massimo Barbolini said: “I am very proud of my team. They played a very good match especially from yesterday’s loss (Turkey lost game with Dominican Republic 2:3). After the first set Serbia were leading and playing very well but we did not lose our hope to win the set. We played our own game. These games are important for our improvement. We must be happy with what is happening in this World Grand Prix for us. It is important to win 3-2. Twelve best teams in the world are competing in Group 1 of the World Grand Prix. That is why every match is very hard. It is important to reach tie-break against teams like Russia, USA and Serbia. We must be happy to be winning these matches three times already.
