Yuki Ishii had 10 kills and three aces Friday evening at the Nippongaishi Hall to lead the hosts Japan past winless Algeria 3:0 (25:8, 25:10, 25:6) for their seventh victory on the opening day of the third round FIVB women’s World Cup. Bouncing back Tuesday’s full-set loss to Serbia, the Japanese team produced 11 aces on way to the victory and improved to a 7-2 win-loss record in the 12-team round robin tournament. Saori Sakoda and Riho Ohtake added nine and seven points to Japan’s victory and the Most Impressive Player award went to Japanese libero Mio Sato.
