China won against Kazakhstan on the penultimate day of the group B competition of the Asian Women’s Qualification Tournament (Women’s World Championships 2014). They won all matches. China found itself facing a familiar lineup as before featuring Yin Na, Shen Jingsi, Yang Junjing , Zeng Chunlei, Xu Yunli, Hui Ruoqi and libero Zhang Xian. Kazakhstan was given a sudden shot as China took a stormy start to a 4:0 lead. A timeout did not bring too many changes to Kazakhstan, whose defence was ruined by China’s combination of spiking and drop shots. Despite any change made by the opponent through timeout and substitution, China left behind Kazakhstan farther and farther, and capped the first set 25:12. The second set witnessed one-sided play of host China, who totally limited Kazakhstan’s attack and let them score 8 points only. China maintained their lineup players and momentum as well to a 5:1 lead, which caused a timeout by Kazakhstan. However, the 4-point difference was kept China to the first technical timeout. Hui Ruoqi’s spiking through double block not only helped China shift to a higher gear but also encouraged the home spectators. The scoreboard displayed 13:6, when Kazakhstan called their second timeout. China also made some errors then but returned to the right way quickly after a timeout called by coach Lang Ping. It was Hui Ruoqi again who scored time and time from left forward and helped her team seal the third set and match victory 25:17. It should be noted that China never substituted during the match. Lang Ping, head coach of China, explained, “Kazakhstan beat Thailand and Korea before. So our goal for this match is to win. My players were concentrated during the match and they played what we prepared.”
