Japan beat Thailand 3:0 (25:19, 25:21, 25:15) in Group H, with a superior blocking and serving performance helping them claim maximum points. Saori Kimura and Miyu Nagaoka each scored a game-high 15 points for Japan. Coach Masayoshi Manabe said: "We are happy to play against Thailand today. We both come from Asia and neither team has advantage in terms of height, but we do learn a lot from this encounter. We hope we can make use of this experience and play better in the upcoming games."
