The V.Challenge matches pit the bottom two finishers from V.League Division 1 against the top two finishers from V.League Division 2. If the V2 team wins the two match tournament they are promoted to play in V1 the following year, and the V1 losing team is demoted to play in V2.

If a V2 team does not have an S1 license, they will not play the tournament, and their V1 opponent remains in V1 unchallenged.
