Russia beat Argentina 3:0 (25:10, 25:10, 25:16) to keep a 4-0 win-record in the first round of the Women’s World Cup. Alexandra Pasynkova scored 14 points, followed by Nataliya Obmochaeva, who added 10 points for Russia, while Argentine captain Emile Sosa and Josefina Fernandez could only produce a combined output of 14 points. Russia coach Yuri Marichev said: "We prepared very hard for this match. Our goal was to concentrate from beginning to end and we were able to do that. In the past we have had matches where we won the first set and then lost concentration. We are in first place but nothing is certain for us because we have tough matches ahead".
