Club World Championship had an amazing finale as host team Sada Cruzeiro once again climbed to the top of the world for their third crown at the competition, this time with an unbelievable performance over Zenit Kazan in front of a packed Ginásio Divino Braga in Betim. MVP William Arjona and scorers Evandro Guerra and Yoandy Leal were the main actors of a team that played astonishingly as a whole. The three of them represented the gold medal winners in the competition Dream Team, as well as libero Sergio Nogueira. Wing spiker Wilfredo León and middle-blocker Artem Volvich featured for Kazan while Trentino’s Simone Giannelli and Bolívar’s Pablo Crer also joined the elite.

Sada Cruzeiro Volei was founded in 2006 as "Sada Betim" and had the Grupo Sada as the main sponsor. Throughout the years, Sada, the company based in Betim, Minas Gerais, has become responsible for managing the "Club", and in 2008 the "Associação Social e Esportiva Sada" was created. In 2009 the partnership with Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, a traditional Brazilian football club was formalized, and the team gained one of the largest volleyball fan-bases in the country driven by Cruzeiro's about eight million supporters. They compete in the Brazilian Superliga and were the champions in the 2011/12, 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons. In 2012, 2014 and 2016 won the South American Championship. Sada Cruzeiro is the only Brazilian volleyball club to ever win the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship.

Fabiana "Fabi" Alvim de Oliveira is a female volleyball player from Brazil who win the gold medal at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. Fabiana started playing volleyball at the age of 13, specializing in defense - and later the libero position - due to her short height. de Oliveira was first called up to the Brazil women's national volleyball team in 2002, under coach Marco Aurélio Motta. She lost her place under his replacement, José Roberto Guimarães, and only returned to being a mainstay of the team in 2005. At the 2007 Pan American Games, held in Rio de Janeiro, Oliveira and the Brazilian team won the silver medal. One year later de Oliveira won the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and was chosen as the best libero of the tournament. At the 2011 Pan-American Cup, de Oliveira was awarded with the Best Receiver award, also winning the gold medal with her national team. Oliveira was part of the National Team who won the gold medal at the 2011 Pan American Games held in Guadalajara, Mexico. The talented Willian started playing in Report Suzano (SP) and since the beginning of his career has played with national teams. As a junior athlete, he won the South American Championship in 1998, when he was elected the best setter in the competition. In the next season, Willian won the bronze medal in the World Championship. After being called for the adult national team for the first time in 2003, he played four years in Bolivar (ARG), where he conquered the national championship four times and was chosen as the best player in the country. Back in Brazil in 2010 to play for Sada Cruzeiro (MG), Willian won the Superliga 11/12 as the best setter in the competition. In 2013, he was called and took part in Brazil’s World League silver medal campaign and won the gold medal in the South American Championship.
