HOSTS TIANJIN BOHAI BANK REGISTER FIRST WIN IN 2023 WOMEN’S CLUB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Former five-time Asian Club winners Tianjin Bohai Bank of China, strengthened by many Chinese national players including left-hander Li Yingying, Yuan Xinyue and Wang Yuanyuan, got the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in Hangzhou off to a winning start on Wednesday after 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20) demolition of Brazil’s Gerdau Minas of Belo Horizonte, led by Brazilian international stars like Thaisa Menezes, Caroline Gattaz, Kisy Nascimento and Dominican Pena Yonkaira.

Li Yingying chipped in with 19 points including 16 kills and 2 aces for Tianjin, while Julia Gambabtto Kudiess and Kiss Nascimento scored 11 points apiece for Minas.

Minas will next play a must-win match against Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul on Thursday. Tianjin have a rest day on Thursday and will take on Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul of Turkey on Friday.
