This time the spotlight is on Team Thailand. Watch the video for interviews of some of the team's most popular players! They took 13th place in the World Grand Prix 2013. Thailand‚ first experience of the World Grand Prix came after they finished third at the 2001 Asian Senior Women‚Äôs Volleyball Championship after stunning formidable Japan in the third-place play-off. With their superb form, the FIVB gave the Thailand team the green light to test their mettle in the FIVB World Grand Prix the following year. They have participated in the World Grand Prix every year since then, with the exception of 2007. Ironically, the year off from the World Grand Prix coincided with Thailand‚Äôs first success when they defied all odds to beat South Korea, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei to earn third place at the 14th Asian Senior Women‚Äôs Volleyball Championship in 2007. In their debut at the FIVB World Cup in Japan that same year, Thailand finished in 10th place following two wins in the top-flight competition. Then in 2009 the Thai team pulled out a stunning defeat over perennial winners China in the showdown to be crowned Asian champions for the first time ever. In 2010, Thailand finished 13th at the FIVB World Championships but have improved immensely since. The following year Thailand made history by storming into the eight-team World Grand Prix Finals in Macau for the first time, finishing in sixth place before advancing to the six-team 2012 World Grand Prix Finals in Ningbo, China and beating China on home soil for the first time. They also defeated former three-time Olympic winners Cuba to record their best ever World Grand Prix result of fourth before going on to capture the AVC Cup for women in Kazakhstan, which qualified Thailand for this year‚Äôs World Grand Prix.
