Japan defeated Cuba in a straight-set match in the first round of the Women's World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Monday. Japan coach Masayoshi Manabe said: "It was unfortunate that we lost yesterday. Today we had good concentration throughout the match. We tried to strengthen our reception at our camp after the World Grand Prix and it worked well tonight. We need to improve on our middle spikes. We are trying to qualify for the Olympics, so I try to make use of all 14 of our players in this tournament."
